Luxury Homes Sold in Each State This Year

California Property Sets New Sales Record This Year

T
he American Dream of homeownership remains elusive for many young people. According to the National Association of Realtors' (NAR) 2024 Profile of Homebuyers and Sellers, the average age of homebuyers has risen to a historic high of 56, up six years from last year. This is due in part to high home prices, mortgage interest rates, and limited inventory, making it difficult for first-time buyers to enter the market.

Meanwhile, current homeowners are able to take advantage of built-up housing equity to make cash purchases or large down payments on dream homes. As a result, properties across the country are selling at record highs. For example, James Jannard, founder of Oakley, sold his California property for $210 million this year, setting a new record for the most expensive private home ever sold in the state.

Here's a look at some of the most expensive homes sold in each state so far this year:

In Rhode Island, a 1892-built mansion epitomizes coastal charm with its understated elegance and extensive grounds. The six-bedroom, 4.5+ bathroom home features a deep water dock, boat lift, and waterside pavilion.

Vermont's most expensive home is a stunning property built on what was once a Vanderbilt family estate. Completed in 2010, the home offers breathtaking views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondack mountains.

A Connecticut mansion built in the style of a Jacobean manor boasts Renaissance-inspired details and six bedrooms, 12 bathrooms. The residence features materials such as Vermont slate and limestone.

Nantucket's most expensive home is a seven-bedroom, 9.5+ bathroom estate with spectacular views of the island and 280 feet of private beach. Amenities include a 5,000 bottle wine cellar and golfing simulator.

Washington state's most expensive home is an outdoor paradise located on an island with space to dock a yacht. The mansion features a library with cigar porch, wine cellar, and billiards room.
