ooper Mount's rise to prominence in Malibu's luxury real estate scene is a testament to his hometown roots and perseverance. As an agent with Carolwood Estates, he's been instrumental in brokering several high-profile deals this year, including the $61 million sale of The Edge spec mansion and a $22.5 million beach house purchase by power agent Kurt Rappaport.

    Mount credits his success to doubling down on his efforts after a challenging year in 2022. "We worked harder this year," he said from Carolwood's penthouse headquarters in Beverly Hills. "Last year, more deals were falling apart for me than coming together." Representing the buyer in The Edge purchase was a key turning point.

    The Edge, built by developer Scott Gillen of Unvarnished, is one of five estates on Malibu's bluffs that offer ocean views and seclusion. Mount represented the buyer in the deal, which took about a year to close due to various complications, including construction completion.

    Growing up in Old Malibu has given Mount an insider's perspective on the city's evolution. "Malibu's a tight-knit community," he said. "It used to be that entertainment people and old families lived here, but now you see more titans of industry buying high-end properties." This trend is evident in recent off-market deals, including Jim Jannard's $210 million sale of his Malibu estate.

    Mount's path to success wasn't automatic. He graduated from Loyola University with a degree in advertising and marketing before working with national brands at WME. A friend offered him an assistant job in real estate about a decade ago, which led him to Carolwood in 2022. Despite the challenges of scaling his business, Mount prefers to keep things lean, focusing on details and hands-on involvement.

    Deals in Malibu have accounted for about 70 percent of Mount's business this year, with notable sales including the nearly $24 million sale of 31412 Broad Beach Road and the $16.5 million purchase of 23768 Malibu Road. His hometown advantage has proven invaluable in navigating the complex world of luxury real estate.
