ill Janovitz, a top-selling real estate agent based in Lexington, Massachusetts, has a unique double life as a rocker with the alternative band Buffalo Tom. In the '90s, Janovitz was a full-time musician, appearing on MTV and late-night talk shows. However, he eventually transitioned to real estate for its flexibility, allowing him to balance his passion for music with a new career.
Janovitz's business partner, John C, has become the go-to team in the Boston area for mid-century modern homes, which were previously undervalued by local realtors. Janovitz's experience as a musician proved helpful in his new gig, teaching him skills such as promotion and collaboration with a team. He created a website called Modern Mass, which turned him into an expert on this style of architecture.
This year, Janovitz's real estate team made over $50 million in sales, while he was also touring and working on music projects. The band released a new album, Jump Rope, and headlined a three-day festival at the Armory in Somerville. Janovitz has also written two books, including a New York Times bestseller about master musician Leon Russell.
Janovitz credits his wife for her support and his business partner for helping him navigate the real estate market. He plans to continue balancing his music career with his real estate business, which he says is possible due to careful scheduling.
