Nashville artist disputes Chattanooga mural's humor, claims it was a serious statement.

Mural of Nashville on Chattanooga office building altered to include local skyline.

A
mural of Nashville on the Hixson office building of Charlotte Mabry, a longtime Chattanooga real estate agent, has been updated to reflect the city's skyline. The original painting closely resembled a common image of Nashville along the Cumberland River, but artist Tonia Anderson said she didn't intend to paint the Music City. Instead, she aimed to depict Chattanooga, which is now clearly recognizable with its three bridges and other landmarks like the Walnut Street Bridge and the Tennessee Aquarium buildings.

Anderson made changes to the mural this week, adding elements such as mountains, a bluff alongside the river, and the zinc-clad west wing of the Hunter Museum of American Art. An employee of Mabry's team said they're unsure why Anderson initially painted the Nashville skyline, but Mabry did not return a call for comment.

The updated mural now accurately represents Chattanooga, with its unique features and recognizable landmarks.
