NYC Penthouse Offers Unusual Outdoor Oasis with Dozen Birch Trees

Find your oasis in Manhattan at 119 E. 29th St.'s luxurious penthouse, perfect for summer living.

A
luxurious penthouse in Manhattan's East Village is set to hit the market, offering a tranquil oasis amidst the bustling city. The 2,100-square-foot residence, priced at $5.99 million, boasts an impressive rooftop garden featuring over a dozen birch trees, wild grass, and a plunge pool.

The seller, Tom O'Shea, a tech investment banker, purchased the unit in 2013 for $3.8 million and embarked on a comprehensive renovation with architect and interior designer David Nosanchuk. The design was inspired by iconic New York City landmarks, including the Museum of Modern Art's sculpture garden and the Metropolitan Museum of Art's red umbrellas.

The rooftop garden is a true showstopper, with 20-foot-high birch trees, two apple trees, an infinity-edge plunge pool, and a summer kitchen. The space is also equipped with an outdoor shower, a 15-foot-high limestone fireplace, and a green wall. A dazzling display of English ivy, passion flowers, and other plants covers the 1,300-square-foot rooftop.

Inside, the penthouse features three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a great room that leads to a chef's kitchen, a library with a study, and a main bedroom with a dressing area and an ensuite bath. The building, dating back to 1920, offers additional amenities including a gym.

O'Shea, who has decided it's time for a change after 10 years of ownership, credits Nosanchuk with helping him see the beauty in creating a serene forest retreat in the heart of the city. The listing brokers will be Marlene Hamad and Mackenzie Kyle of Platinum Properties.
