Pacoima DMV site to become mixed-use apartment complex

Kevin Brunk's 246-apartment project approved for Pacoima site, replacing old DMV with grocery store and housing.

K
evin Brunk, known as the "unofficial beautifier" of Venice, is moving forward with plans to transform a former DMV location in Pacoima into a mixed-use complex. The Los Angeles City Planning Commission has approved 118 LP's proposal to demolish the defunct Department of Motor Vehicles licensing center at 11623 North Glenoaks Boulevard and build a six-story apartment building above a grocery store. The project, designed by Morphosis, will feature 246 units, including studios, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, as well as parking for 318 cars.

In exchange for density bonus incentives, Brunk's company has agreed to include 28 affordable units in the complex. The building will have a rooftop deck, exterior balconies, and a central courtyard with a playground. This is not Brunk's first large-scale project; he previously helped revitalize Washington Boulevard in Venice, transforming it into Abbot Kinney Boulevard, a trendy hotspot.
