A
woman is suing prominent real estate investor Ethan Conrad, alleging he used his prominence to lure her to his house for a business meeting in 2011 and then sexually assaulted her. The civil complaint claims Conrad's actions were part of a pattern of behavior, with at least three other cases being actively investigated by the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office into allegations of sexual abuse or domestic violence.
The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, told KCRA 3 Investigates that she met Conrad in 2003 and they started working together in 2008, buying properties in foreclosure and flipping them for a profit. However, she said Conrad wanted to hold 20 of the properties as rentals, which became a point of contention.
On July 21, 2011, the woman agreed to meet with Conrad at his residence, but planned to go to a restaurant downtown afterwards. Instead, Conrad ordered champagne and drove her to his house, where he allegedly laced her drink with a date rape-type substance. The next morning, she woke up naked and disoriented, with no memory of what had happened.
The woman said she did not immediately report the incident to law enforcement, but told her assistant and scheduled a doctor's appointment. She claimed it was difficult for her to sever ties with Conrad after the alleged assault.
Conrad denies the allegations, with his attorneys stating that the lawsuit is "legally meritless and frivolous" and will be promptly dismissed. However, four civil lawsuits filed against Conrad in the last six months are still ongoing, including two where he has filed cross-complaints accusing the women of targeting him for his money.
