Suburban community approves senior living development despite local zoning freeze

Monoceros expands senior living presence with 53,000-sq-ft addition at Plum Creek Supportive Living in Rolling Meadows.

M
onoceros, a Lake Zurich-based developer, is expanding its senior living presence with a significant addition to Plum Creek Supportive Living in Rolling Meadows. The company secured rezoning approval to build a 53,000-square-foot expansion on a vacant lot adjacent to 2801 Algonquin Road, as reported by the Daily Herald. This four-story, 52-unit addition will increase Plum Creek's capacity to 150 apartments, addressing strong demand and a growing need for supportive living accommodations in the area.

Monoceros acquired the plot from Niles First RE LLC, owned by Paul Khanna of Oak Brook, after demolishing a small building on the site nearly a decade ago. The expansion will be 37 feet tall, consistent with neighboring properties but exceeding the city's usual 30-foot height limit. To meet updated zoning codes, Monoceros will also install a monument sign to replace Plum Creek's existing pole sign.

The rezoning came just in time, as Rolling Meadows had recently enacted a development moratorium due to concerns about rapid growth and its impact on infrastructure and resources. The moratorium applies to new zoning requests but does not affect current projects or those already underway.
