Tax Relief Options Available for Eligible Seniors and Disabled Veterans

Ohio's Homestead Exemption offers property tax relief to homeowners aged 65+ or those permanently and totally disabled.

H
omeowners aged 65 and older, as well as those who are permanently and totally disabled, may be eligible for Ohio's Homestead Exemption, which provides property tax relief. The exemption amounts now adjust annually with inflation to ensure they keep pace with rising costs.

Fairfield County Auditor Carri Brown commends the state legislators for expanding the income threshold and exempting amount, providing much-needed relief for seniors and disabled veterans. For 2025, the homestead income threshold will increase to $40,000, up from $38,600 in 2024. The exemption amount will also rise to $28,000, up from $26,200.

Those already on the program will automatically receive the increased exemption amount. Disabled veterans with a 100% disability rating and their surviving spouses qualify for an enhanced exemption, which adjusts annually for inflation. For 2025, this amount will increase to $56,000, up from $52,300 in 2024.

These changes apply to tax year 2024 (collected in calendar year 2025) for real property and tax year 2025 (collected in calendar year 2025) for manufactured or mobile homes. For more information on the Homestead program, contact the Fairfield County Auditor's office at 740-652-7020.
