These community areas have distinct borders that have remained largely unchanged since the 1920s. Cody Horvat, a real estate broker at Scott Group Real Estate, selected the top five neighborhoods to buy a home in Chicago based on market data and his experience.

    Lincoln Park is one of the most desirable neighborhoods, with a central location, outstanding schools, and amenities. However, it comes with high prices, with a median price point of $849,000. Motivated buyers may find homes for less than the median, but move-in condition homes sell quickly and often at premium pricing.

    The Medical District has seen significant growth, with a 21.78% increase in home prices year over year compared to a citywide decline. Its proximity to major medical facilities and Rush University makes it popular among professionals in the medical field. United Center, located just north of the Medical District, also experienced growth of over 20% in 2024.

    The Loop was hard-hit by the pandemic but is recovering as more workers return to offices. Condos are an appealing option for those workers, and inventory has grown significantly within The Loop's two ZIP codes. However, prices may rise as demand increases with the completion of the new Google headquarters.

    Rogers Park is a North Side community area known for its diversity, arts venues, and affordable bungalows. Recent data shows price growth and inventory increases, with home prices up 13.36% and new listings rising 54.43% in 2024. With a median list price of $221,000, Rogers Park offers some of the best value in the city.
