erospacelab, a Belgian-based satellite manufacturer, has leased a 34,700-square-foot industrial building in Torrance as its U.S. headquarters and first manufacturing plant. The three-story office and manufacturing facility at 20000 South Vermont Avenue was secured through a deal with landlord Park and Lauren. While terms of the lease were not disclosed, Aerospacelab's CEO Tina Ghataore highlighted the location's appeal due to its proximity to major aerospace companies, contractors, and the U.S. Space Force Base.
The building, constructed in 2019, features over 6,500 square feet of office space and will serve as Aerospacelab's first U.S. factory, producing two satellites per week on average. This expansion follows the company's opening of an office in Palo Alto last year. The South Bay region has a growing aerospace industry presence, with companies like Aerospace Corporation investing $100 million into its El Segundo campus this year.
The City of Long Beach is also actively courting the industry, having issued a request for proposals to develop a 17-acre parcel near the airport into an aerospace facility. This move aims to rebrand the city as "Space Beach," shifting from traditional aviation to space manufacturing.
