U
S President Donald Trump has clarified that he's not forcing his plan to depopulate, take over and redevelop the Gaza Strip as a solution to tensions between Israel and Palestinians. However, he reiterated that his approach is the "best" way forward. Speaking to Fox News, Trump said his plan involves the US owning the site, eradicating Hamas, and developing it into a new territory with a clean slate.
Trump also expressed surprise at Israel's decision to unilaterally withdraw from Gaza in 2005, transferring control to the Palestinian Authority, which was later taken over by militant group Hamas. He described this as "one of the bad real estate deals" made by former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.
The US President has vowed to support Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu if he decides to rescue remaining hostages or resume fighting against Hamas. Trump's plan has been met with rejection from Arab states, including Egypt and Jordan, which have refused to accept displaced Palestinians.
