Trump's NYC Childhood Home Sells at Discount Amid Feral Cat Infestation

Tudor-style residence in Jamaica Estates now priced under $1 million, down from 2017's $2.14 million.

P
resident Trump's childhood home in Jamaica Estates, Queens, has been sold at a significant discount after years of neglect and disrepair. The Tudor-style residence was purchased by Brooklyn-based LLC 1388 Group for $835,000, less than half the price it fetched in 2017 when it was bought by Michael X. Tang for $2.14 million.

The house, built by Trump's father Fred C. Trump in 1940, had fallen into disrepair and become overrun with feral cats. The previous owner had allowed the property to deteriorate, with interior walls stripped to the studs and a graffiti-covered dumpster filled with debris. Construction workers were seen gutting the house, with one worker telling a neighbor that the new owner was a known flipper.

The buyer took out two mortgages worth $931,500 to pay for the house and renovations, according to property records. The mortgage lender is listed as Accolend, which advertises "fix and flip" loans on its website. A neighbor expressed frustration with the previous owner's neglect of the property, saying that it had become an eyesore in the community.

The seller reportedly needed the money for the sale, while the buyer's attorney declined to comment. The house has been vacant for years, aside from a colony of feral cats that have been cared for by volunteers. The property was previously rented out on Airbnb and even launched a crowd-funding campaign to raise $3 million to buy it and donate it to Trump in 2021.
