Vail home that set a sales record in 2020 is back on the market with an even higher price tag. The property, located at 99 and 100 Vail Road near the Vail Interfaith Chapel, originally sold for $57.2 million after being converted from a duplex to a single-family home. It's now listed for $78 million under the name "Alpenstrasse." This luxurious estate boasts 11 bedrooms, 15 full bathrooms, and over 15,000 square feet of living space.
The property was previously known as the Webster House and underwent construction for five years before its sale to biotech entrepreneur Kevin Ness in 2020. That sale was an all-cash transaction, a common occurrence in high-end Vail sales. Ron Byrne, a local Realtor who brokered the original sale, notes that while it's uncertain whether the property will reach its full asking price, he expects it to bring a "very high price."
If sold for $78 million, this home would shatter the 2024 single-family record set by a $40 million sale on Rockledge Road. Craig Denton of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Colorado Properties believes that sale established a new benchmark for Vail's values, indicating that investors understand and value the area.
The luxury market in Vail continues to rise, with several high-end listings available. Byrne's firm has a home listed for $25 million in the Vail Golf Course neighborhood, which would set a new record if sold at its asking price. Another property is listed for $25 million along Lake Creek, also poised to break local records.
The market's upward trend is not unique to Vail; nationwide real estate prices are increasing rapidly. Local broker Mark Gordon notes that while Vail's values have remained resilient during downturns, the area's desirability as a safe haven for investments contributes to its continued growth.
