Vantage Builders Completes Simulation Lab for Middlesex Community College Nursing Programs

V
antage Builders has completed a state-of-the-art simulation and skills laboratory for Middlesex Community College's nursing programs. The 7,345-square-foot facility is located at 88 Middle Street in Lowell, MA, occupying two floors of the historic Derby Building.

The project team, led by Vantage Builders, included William Sloan Associates as architects and VAV International and R.W. Sullivan Engineering providing engineering services. NV5 served as owner's project manager. The new lab is designed to mimic a real hospital setting, offering students hands-on experience with 26 hospital beds, eight examination rooms, and simulation mannequins that can simulate vital signs and even deliver an infant.

The building, originally constructed in the 1890s, was renovated to expose its original details while installing all new infrastructure, including electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems. The Vantage team also added custom millwork, lighting, and flooring to create a hospital-like environment. "This project is a game-changer for our nursing students," said Karen Townsend, MCC's Dean of Health. "It will help them build confidence and develop the skills they need to succeed in their careers."

"We're proud to have played a part in creating this cutting-edge training facility," said Ed Silva, Principal at Vantage Builders. "Our team worked tirelessly to meet the tight deadline, ensuring that the lab was ready for fall classes."
