reaking into the high-paying world of real estate requires a tremendous amount of hard work and dedication. According to seasoned agent Patrick McKinnon, who has spent nearly two decades in the industry, earning a six-figure salary is not for the faint of heart.
To reach the top tier, agents must be willing to put in grueling hours, often exceeding 12 hours a day, six days a week. This demanding schedule is due in part to the unpredictable nature of inspections and auctions, which can take place on Saturdays and sometimes even Sundays.
McKinnon's own experience serves as a testament to this reality. As co-director and lead agent at Place in Brisbane's Ascot, he has sold properties worth tens of millions of dollars and is currently closing a deal with a price tag of over $20 million.
For those looking to join the industry, McKinnon advises treating it like an apprenticeship. "Get in and work underneath a team... someone that's got good market share," he recommends. "Work in there for three or four years in the team." This hands-on approach will help new agents learn the ropes and build the skills necessary to succeed.
While it may seem daunting, the rewards can be substantial. According to McKinnon, agents who prove themselves over time can earn upwards of $130,000 in commission by their second year. However, this requires a significant amount of hard work and perseverance.
The average real estate agent salary across Australia is difficult to pinpoint due to varying market conditions, commission rates, and suburban differences. However, McKinnon's own success story serves as a benchmark for what can be achieved with dedication and expertise.
