inona Ryder's homes showcase her refined taste, which she attributes to her exposure to art and grandeur through her film work. In a 1994 Architectural Digest interview, she mentioned that shooting films like The Age of Innocence introduced her to a world of beauty and historical significance. Her friend and interior designer Kevin Haley notes that Ryder is drawn to ethereal images.
Ryder's homes are far removed from the haunted abodes depicted in Beetlejuice. In Beverly Hills, she purchased a 1920s Mediterranean-style estate, which she initially found "creepy." However, with Haley's help, they transformed it into a tranquil retreat. The property was restored to its original state, and the backyard was turned into a garden where Ryder could paint.
In New York City, Ryder owned an apartment in a downtown Manhattan building, featuring 18-foot-high ceilings and tall windows. Interior designer Haley described the space as "glamorous," incorporating a musical motif throughout the design. The living room housed a Steinway grand piano and artwork by French painter Pierre Bobot.
Ryder's San Francisco home was a Dutch Colonial built in 1902, located in the vibrant Cow Hollow neighborhood. The property featured a formal entryway, a living room with a fireplace, and bay windows. Before selling it for $5 million in 2020, Ryder rented out the property for $15,000 per month.
In Los Angeles, Ryder purchased a Spanish-style home on the Sunset Strip for $2.5 million in 1998. The villa featured original Malibu tiles, a curved staircase, and Art Deco bathrooms. Although she listed it for sale in 2010, it sold for $3.725 million.
Ryder also owns a rumored Hollywood Hills villa, purchased quietly in 2016 for $2.2 million. The Mediterranean-style estate features three bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, a sunroom, pool, and multiple fireplaces.
