PATRIZIA, a global real assets investment manager, intends to invest one billion British Pounds (GBP) in the development of housing in the United Kingdom. This initiative builds on the company's existing real estate investments in the UK market, as well as long-standing collaborations with institutional investors. The announcement followed a meeting between Asoka Wöhrmann, CEO of PATRIZIA SE, and Mayor Andy Burnham at the British Embassy in Berlin.

The investment manager plans to expand its residential development activities to high-growth cities and regions across the United Kingdom. This will be done in cooperation with local authorities and partners to identify investment opportunities that align with their respective local priorities. The targeted investment volume is expected to enable the construction of approximately 4,000 housing units for around 10,000 residents.

The investment approach aims to provide long-term capital for housing projects identified by local authorities, with the potential involvement of UK pension funds. Local authorities can set local housing priorities and provide funding. Local government pension funds would have the opportunity to invest in these projects as part of their investment strategies, with each investment subject to individual assessment and decision by the respective pension fund.

Strategic Expansion and Previous Successes

Asoka Wöhrmann emphasised that the meeting with the Mayor provided an opportunity to discuss the support of the United Kingdom's housing objectives through European investments. PATRIZIA is already active in the British residential sector and intends to further expand this commitment. Through cooperation with local authorities and partners, long-term capital can be deployed effectively, and the presence in residential development can be strengthened nationwide.

These plans build on PATRIZIA's existing investments in the United Kingdom. In London, the company is investing more than 100 million British Pounds through a joint venture with a local property developer in alternative housing forms and affordable housing. For the joint venture's first project, “Walworth Corners” in Elephant and Castle, construction financing has already been secured, and a contractor appointed. New homes, student accommodation, as well as community and public spaces are being built on the formerly unused site.

PATRIZIA also has experience in delivering affordable housing in other European regions. As part of the company's impact investment strategy, 929 housing units have been handed over in Ireland, and the first of 960 affordable rental homes have been completed in Spain. By the second quarter of 2026, PATRIZIA has secured 324 million Euros in equity for 18 affordable housing projects in Spain, Ireland, the UK, and Belgium. These activities are part of PATRIZIA's “European Living” platform, which has a total volume of 17.5 billion Euros.

Regional Perspectives and Cooperations

Mayor Sadiq Khan expressed positive views on PATRIZIA's expansion plans in London, interpreting them as a vote of confidence in the city. The investment in Elephant and Castle is already contributing to the provision of much-needed housing. Steve Rotheram, Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, highlighted his region's ambitious housing goals and existing investment opportunities. He affirmed that direct collaboration between PATRIZIA and Mayors and local authorities is seen as promising for translating the region's potential into concrete construction measures.

Richard Parker, Mayor of the West Midlands, emphasised the priority of tackling the housing crisis. He pointed to the necessity of strong, trustworthy partnerships with private developers. Parker stated that PATRIZIA has shown commitment to the region through existing investments in Edgbaston and Birmingham city centre, and the ambition to extend this cooperative model across the entire UK is exemplary. He underscored the relevance of collaboration between regional decision-makers, national government, and long-term private investors to create the necessary security for substantial growth and the provision of safe, affordable housing.
