Düsseldorf-based Rheinwohnungsbau GmbH has entered into a partnership with competitive metering point operator metiundo to digitalise the metering for its tenant electricity offering. The aim of this collaboration is the metrological development of all the company's tenant electricity installations to support its corporate decarbonisation strategy. Already, 640 flats in 100 buildings have been equipped with intelligent metering technology for electricity and heat.

As part of this cooperation, metiundo not only provides digital electricity and heat meters but also handles the complete recording and transmission of relevant consumption data. This continuous data basis enables precise tenant electricity billing, optimisation of heat supply, detailed consumption analyses, and comprehensive, cross-building energy management.

Data Basis as a Steering Element

The quality of the data basis is crucial for successful decarbonisation, as indirectly stated by Dennis Nasrun, Co-Founder and CEO of metiundo. His statement highlights the relevance of converting meter readings into reliable information to effectively control Rheinwohnungsbau's climate and PV strategy. The rapid digitalisation of several hundred flats since 2024 demonstrates the efficiency of the close cooperation between housing companies and metering point operators.

For Rheinwohnungsbau GmbH, this precise data basis acts as a key lever for more targeted planning of future investments in its property portfolio. This is intended to contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions while realising cost savings for the company and its tenants. The partnership thus makes a direct contribution to the housing company's climate and photovoltaic strategy.

Thomas Hummelsbeck, Managing Director of Rheinwohnungsbau GmbH, indirectly emphasised that the implementation of tenant electricity models and the optimisation of energy consumption would not be feasible without reliable and continuously available metering data. He highlighted that they had found a flexible and capable partner in metiundo, who supports them in creating the necessary data basis for the decarbonisation of their existing stock. This enables more efficient energy use, the targeted expansion of renewable energies, and offers tenants greater transparency and future-proof energy solutions.

Expansion of the Digital Metering Infrastructure

In the coming years, the partners plan to equip Rheinwohnungsbau's entire tenant electricity offering with intelligent metering systems for electricity and heat from metiundo. The establishment of a continuous digital metering infrastructure creates the fundamental conditions for the further electrification and decarbonisation of the property portfolio. This includes the expansion of photovoltaics, the optimisation of heat supply, and the implementation of future efficiency measures.
