The Staycity Group's "Wilde Amsterdam" aparthotel has commenced operations in Union Investment's YVIE mixed-use complex. This event marks the Staycity Group's market entry into the Netherlands with a specific concept for long-term stays. The design-oriented aparthotel occupies floors three to ten of the 31-storey residential high-rise and offers 120 apartments across a total area of approximately 7,000 square metres. The lease agreement between the parties was concluded for a period of 25 years.
Designed by Studio Barba Mendoza, "Wilde Amsterdam" boasts views of the River IJ and is designed for stays of seven nights or more. It combines living in fully equipped apartments with comprehensive hotel services. This concept targets various groups, including individuals relocating for work, business travellers, and holidaymakers planning longer stays. It aims to combine the flexibility and comfort of a private home with the service and experience of a boutique hotel.
Facilities and Background of the Location
In addition to the apartments, the aparthotel offers various communal areas. These include "Oscar's", an all-day café and bar, as well as a self-service deli. Complementary communal living and working areas, fitness facilities, and an outdoor terrace are also available. Thorsten Purkus, Head of Asset Management Hospitality at Union Investment, commented on the transaction, emphasising confidence in the resilience of this asset class. He also highlighted the deepening collaboration with the Staycity Group, which has already been operating as a tenant for Union Investment since 2021 with "Wilde Aldgate" in London's Commercial Road.
Rob de Ridder, Managing Director of Wilde Amsterdam, highlighted the evolution of travel and living habits, where the boundaries between work, life, and discovery are increasingly blurring. He explained that today's travellers are looking for more than just accommodation. They prefer flexibility, community, and familiar comforts combined with hotel service, regardless of the length of their stay. The market entry into the Netherlands with "Wilde Amsterdam" reflects these changing customer needs.
The YVIE Complex in Amsterdam-Noord
The YVIE mixed-use complex, scheduled for completion between 2024 and 2025, is located in the dynamic Overhoeks district of Amsterdam-Noord. In addition to the "Wilde Amsterdam" aparthotel, the residential tower also houses 176 flats, the majority of which have already been let. Union Investment acquired the complex as a development project in 2019. The entire property is part of the portfolio of the open-ended real estate public fund UniImmo: Europa.
