Singapore-based hospitality company The Ascott Limited has recently opened lyf George Square Glasgow. It is the first Scottish location for the group's lyf brand, which stands for the acronym 'live your freedom'. The property follows the company's social living concept, combining private accommodation units with communal work, dining and lounge areas. It is primarily targeted at business travellers, city tourists and creative professionals.
The property is located in Glasgow's Merchant City district, a historic area dating back to the 18th century, which is today characterised by restored Victorian buildings and the nearby Buchanan Street shopping area. Cultural destinations such as the Gallery of Modern Art, the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall and George Square are less than a 15-minute walk away. Public transport links are provided by Argyle Street railway station, located 400 metres away.
Capacities and functional amenities
The building comprises 89 rooms and two suites, distributed across four different room categories with single or double beds. Floor space ranges between 15 and 28 square metres per unit. In addition to traditional coworking spaces, the property's functional infrastructure includes conference and event rooms. On-site car parking spaces and a bicycle hire service are available for guest mobility.
The layout is complemented by a restaurant offering modern interpretations of Scottish cuisine and a bar serving regional whiskies, beers and gins. In addition, regular events take place on the premises, including workshops and formats such as book swaps, designed to encourage interaction between travellers and local residents.
Expansion across the British Isles
With its market entry into Scotland, Ascott is expanding its European portfolio, which to date comprises lyf locations in Frankfurt, Vienna and Paris. By 2027, the company plans three further openings across the British Isles:
- —lyf Chelsea London in the immediate vicinity of Stamford Bridge Stadium
- —lyf Piccadilly Manchester
- —lyf Liberties Dublin
Globally, The Ascott Limited currently operates 40 properties under the lyf brand, with a further 15 hotel projects in the international development and planning phase.
