Union Investment and the Radisson Hotel Group have confirmed their long-standing collaboration for the Radisson Blu Hotel Manchester Airport by extending the lease agreement until the end of 2035. This agreement also includes a mutual option to extend for a further ten years until 2045, underscoring both parties' long-term commitment to this strategic location.
The property, completed in 1998 and with a total area of 24,712 m², has been part of the UniInstitutional European Real Estate portfolio since 2004. This open-ended real estate public fund from Union Investment is specifically aimed at institutional investors. The hotel features 352 rooms as well as eight exclusive suites and is distinguished by its direct connection to the airport terminals, making it the only hotel of its kind at the location.
The services offered by the Radisson Blu Hotel Manchester Airport also include 170 outdoor parking spaces, 27 flexible meeting areas offering capacity for up to 400 guests, and a restaurant with views of the airport grounds. These facilities ensure comprehensive infrastructure for both business and leisure travellers.
Strategic Importance of the Location
Manchester Airport holds a central position in UK air traffic. For 2025, a passenger volume of over 32 million passengers is projected, making it the third-largest airport in the United Kingdom. By 2030, this volume is expected to rise to approximately 40 million passengers. Expectations for new long-haul connections, including to South and East Asia, are particularly set to significantly support this growth.
Thorsten Purkus, Head of Asset Management Hospitality at Union Investment, pointed out that Manchester Airport is on the verge of completing a comprehensive transformation programme with an investment volume of 1.3 billion British Pounds, which also includes the construction of a second terminal. He emphasised that the Radisson Blu Hotel Manchester Airport is excellently positioned to benefit from the positive development of the location due to its micro-location and direct access to the terminals. Purkus expressed his pleasure at the continuation of the collaboration with the Radisson Hotel Group as operator.
Jens Brandin, Cluster General Manager of the Radisson Blu Hotel Manchester Airport, confirmed the appreciation for the long-standing partnership with Union Investment through the contract extension. He stated that the hotel will continue to welcome visitors and guests and offer them optimal hospitality at this location.
