The development of the Urban Tech Republic on the former Tegel airport grounds is progressing. At this year's EXPO REAL, Berlin TXL Management GmbH officially launched the marketing of building plot GE West 2. This commercial plot spans an area of approximately 4,490 m² and is primarily aimed at companies focusing on the research, development, or production of technologies for future urban structures.
GE West 2 represents the second building plot to be brought to market for the settlement of innovation-oriented companies within the Urban Tech Republic. Interested parties now have the opportunity to register for participation in the competitive process until 15 December 2026. The Tegel location has already demonstrated significant appeal: currently, over 40 companies, start-ups, and research institutions are active there. They utilise over 34,000 m² of office, workshop, and communal spaces, as well as an experimentation field of more than 600,000 m² for ground- and air-based applications. The existing buildings are almost fully let.
Strategic location and future development
Frank Wolters, Managing Director of Berlin TXL Management GmbH, commented on the strategic importance of the measure. He emphasised that the marketing of GE West 2 creates further early participation opportunities for companies at this growing innovation location. Regarding the first plot, covering approximately 6,900 m², the process is nearing completion, with the relevant committees having already approved the transaction. This underscores that companies recognise the potential of the location and that development is proceeding as planned.
Plot GE West 2 is situated in the south-western area of the Urban Tech Republic, directly opposite the Freight Hall, a central building within the Innovation Hub. The areas are fully developed and will be allocated under a hereditary building right. They are specifically designed for technology-oriented companies in the fields of research, development, and production. The immediate proximity to established companies, existing testing facilities, and the future Campus TXL of the Berlin University of Technology creates an environment that enables development, testing, and collaboration in one central location.
