WOLFF & MÜLLER, a family business managed by the third generation, is celebrating its 90th anniversary. Since its founding in 1936, the company has developed into a group of companies with three main business areas – construction, building materials, and services. In the financial year 2025, an annual performance of EUR 1.092 billion was achieved, of which the construction business area contributed approximately EUR 961 million.

Dr. Albert Dürr, managing partner, emphasised the importance of generational succession in a statement. He highlighted that each entrepreneurial generation had shaped and further developed the company in its own way. The goal had always been to hand over the company stably and independently to the next generation. This long-term perspective also influences current decisions and serves as proof of the appreciation for employees, customers, and partners.

The history of WOLFF & MÜLLER began in Stuttgart in 1936 with the takeover of a construction business by graduate engineer Karl Wolff, who was joined by master builder Gottlob Müller. The company made significant contributions to the reconstruction of Stuttgart after the war, having already worked for companies such as Daimler-Benz and Bosch before the war. After Karl Wolff's departure in 1948, the dual name was retained. In subsequent years, the company diversified its activities by building up its own capacities for building materials and pre-products, including timber works, gravel extraction plants, and a precast concrete plant.

During the economic boom years, WOLFF & MÜLLER expanded its range of services, which henceforth included civil engineering and road construction, residential construction, prefabricated houses, and renovation of old buildings. In 1977, Wolfgang Dürr, Gottlob Müller's son-in-law, took over management and transformed WOLFF & MÜLLER into a broadly positioned construction group. Under his leadership, turnkey construction was strengthened, partnership models with the public sector were established, and new business areas such as property services, specialist civil engineering, quartz sands, and investments were opened up.

Since 2005, the group has been led by the third generation, Dr. Albert Dürr, and restructured under a holding company. Under his responsibility, digitalisation and sustainability are at the forefront of further development. Building Information Management (BIM) and Lean Construction methods for process optimisation are established standards at WOLFF & MÜLLER. The importance of serial construction methods is also increasing, as Dr. Dürr explained, because building elements and modules can be standardised, prefabricated in the factory, and assembled on site, which represents an example of the industrialisation of construction.

The company holds the view that economic activity and social responsibility are inextricably linked, which is enshrined as the “Gottlob Müller Principle” within the company. The Wolfgang Dürr Foundation also supports projects aimed at improving quality of life, strengthening social cohesion, and nature conservation. Recent awards such as the German Construction Award 2026 in the category “Construction companies with more than 500 employees” and the six-fold award with the “Best Managed Companies” prize underscore this corporate philosophy.

With its Strategy 2030, WOLFF & MÜLLER has set the course for further growth and the recruitment of skilled workers. Dr. Dürr emphasised that targeted investments are being made in construction segments that offer answers to megatrends such as decarbonisation, digitalisation, and health. These include infrastructure for the energy and transport transition, serial construction, and building within existing structures. The aspiration to contribute to improving living conditions with their own services remains, even after 90 years.
