Woolworth GmbH has secured a long-term lease for 1,623 sqm of retail space at Postplatz 2 in Dresden. The letting was brokered by Beate Protze Immobilien GmbH. Occupation of the premises is planned for the period between October and November 2027, following the completion of necessary fit-out works. The lease agreement was initially concluded for a term of ten years.
Strategic expansion at the Dresden location
The lease at Postplatz underscores Woolworth's growth strategy. The company, founded in 1879, established itself as a discounter with an extensive product range. This includes around 18,000 items, from clothing for women, men and children to household goods, decorative items, electrical and drugstore products, as well as gift ideas. Woolworth currently operates over 1,000 stores in Europe and is considered one of Germany's most expansive retail companies. The company identifies a potential for more than 1,500 locations in Germany alone. Since 2023, Woolworth has also been active in Austria, with further expansion into the Czech Republic and Slovakia planned for 2025.
The new retail space is located in a prime city centre position in Dresden. The residential and commercial building "Haus Postplatz" is centrally positioned and offers excellent accessibility. The surrounding area is characterised by significant cultural institutions such as the Semperoper, the Frauenkirche and the Zwinger, which further enhance the attractiveness of the location. In addition, Dresden's main shopping mile is within walking distance, ensuring continuous footfall.
Excellent infrastructural connections
Right in front of the property at Postplatz is a major public transport hub. This connection makes it easier for both local customers and tourists to access the new Woolworth branch. The location is characterised by above-average footfall and is popular with both the local population and visitors to the city. These conditions provide a solid basis for business operations at the new site.
