Aroundtown, a leading European real estate company with a diversified portfolio of office, residential, and hotel properties, has entered into a strategic partnership with Climate X. The aim of this cooperation is to comprehensively analyse climate-related challenges within the company's property portfolio. The collaboration focuses on assessing the potential impacts of climatic changes, both at the level of individual assets and for the entire portfolio.
Climate X, an intelligence platform company specialising in climate risk analysis, develops data-driven solutions for assessing physical climate risks. These analyses encompass the potential effects on locations, assets, and business processes of organisations. As part of the partnership, Climate X's modelling procedures will be adapted to Aroundtown's specific portfolio characteristics.
In-depth climate scenarios and strategic decisions
The cooperation enables an in-depth examination of various climate and emissions scenarios, known as Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSPs). Through the resulting detailed scenario analyses, Aroundtown can make an informed assessment of the actual climate-related impacts and their development under different climate changes. This serves to identify and prioritise risks at an early stage.
Limor Bermann, Chief Sustainability Officer at Aroundtown, expressed her satisfaction with the partnership. She emphasised that Climate X is an innovative start-up with proven expertise in data-driven analysis of physical climate risks. The collaboration strengthens the strategic approach to portfolio risk reduction, as climate-related vulnerabilities can be identified early, targeted measures initiated, and the resilience of the property portfolio sustainably increased. The insights gained provide important impetus for strategic investment and sustainability decisions.
Integration into real estate and investment strategies
Lukky Ahmed, CEO and co-founder of Climate X, highlighted that the collaboration with Aroundtown represents a fundamental shift in how asset managers evaluate climatic changes. The analysis is no longer viewed in isolation but as an integral component of strategic real estate and investment decisions. He mentioned that the creation of a tailored Climate X report, used as part of a BREEAM certification process, is a first for the company. This report demonstrates how individually prepared climate information can be utilised in the real estate context, both in connection with existing reporting obligations and when evaluating potential new properties in Germany and Europe.
The partnership underscores the growing importance of data-driven approaches in real estate portfolio risk management and contributes to safeguarding the long-term stability and value of the portfolio.
