BAU 2027, the world's leading trade fair for architecture, materials, and systems, taking place from 11 to 15 January 2027 in Munich, is complementing its communication with a new programme: the 'BAU Insiders'. This is a group of selected brand ambassadors from various sectors of the construction industry. These personalities include experts from areas such as planning, skilled trades, industry, digitalisation, existing building transformation, serial renovation, and construction robotics.
The primary task of the 'BAU Insiders' is to address central themes of the trade fair through their own communication channels and networks. They are to contextualise developments from their respective professional perspectives and provide insights into current industry issues. The aim is to augment traditional trade fair communication with authentic voices from practice and to specifically disseminate the key themes of BAU 2027 to different specialist circles.
Cornelia Lutz, Project Manager for BAU, commented on the initiative by emphasising that BAU thrives on the direct exchange between industry players and can only evolve through it. She explained that the 'BAU Insiders' are intended to help make central trade fair themes more tangible and to show where the future of construction is already taking shape. She highlighted the professional expertise, practical experience, and networks of the brand ambassadors, which serve to illuminate the key themes of BAU 2027 from various angles and intensify dialogue with the industry in the run-up to the trade fair.
Focus on Future Topics and Practical Insights
The 'BAU Insiders' represent central future questions for the construction industry. This includes the intelligent use of existing building stock, increasing productivity through digital technologies and industrial processes, and the role of skilled trades, small and medium-sized enterprises, and execution in climate protection, resource efficiency, and quality.
Sarah Dungs, Managing Director of Greyfield Group and Chairwoman of the Association for Building in Existing Stock, brings the perspective of existing building transformation. She emphasised that the future of construction does not lie exclusively in new builds, but that it is crucial how existing structures are dealt with and whether it is possible to perceive existing stock as an opportunity for climate protection, urban development, and new usage concepts. For the technological transformation of the industry, Christoph Krause, who translates digitalisation, AI, and automation into applications for construction and craft businesses, and Dr. Lena-Marie Pätzmann, Co-Founder and CEO of Sitegeist Robotics, are among those involved. Dr. Pätzmann highlights the role of robotics and artificial intelligence, which combine occupational safety with productivity and reduce hazards on construction sites, while increasing quality and cost-effectiveness.
Another focus is on skilled trades, small and medium-sized enterprises, and execution. Gerda Söhngen, Managing Director of KEIL Befestigungstechnik GmbH, stands for technical quality and innovative strength in specialised SMEs. Cehan San, entrepreneur and consultant in the HVAC sector, underlined that skilled trades represent one of the greatest levers for climate protection, digitalisation, and productivity and therefore need to appear more visible, bolder, and more modern. Further perspectives come from Julian Waning (Gira) on architecture and intelligent building technology, Romina Haller (Haller Raumgestaltung) on modern interior fit-out, Emanuel Heisenberg (ecoworks) on serial renovation, and Bernhard Wolter ('Bernd der Baucoach') on construction practice and product knowledge.
Promoting Dialogue and Visibility of Key Themes
With the 'BAU Insiders', BAU 2027 aims to strengthen dialogue with the various target groups in the construction industry. The brand ambassadors are to provide personal insights, pick up on industry trends, and make the key themes of the trade fair visible in a practical way. These key themes include changing living spaces, material & resources, digitalisation & productivity, and climate protection & climate adaptation.
