BEO Schule Berlin, part of the Klett Group, will establish its future location in the Herzberg Campus in Berlin-Lichtenberg. To this end, a long-term lease agreement for an area of approximately 5,600 m² has been signed with Trockland. The planned opening of the school is scheduled for August 2027. The spaces are currently being converted and designed to meet the specific requirements for school operations.
The future premises will include generous, light-filled learning areas, complemented by zones for retreat, relaxation, and creative development. The school site will also feature its own gymnasium and outdoor areas. A dedicated break area for students will be created in the green inner courtyard of the Herzberg Campus. The immediate proximity to the Herzberge Landscape Park extends opportunities for physical activity, outdoor lessons, and extracurricular activities.
Concept and Location Details
School operations at BEO Schule will commence in August 2027 with the primary school; initially, Years 1 and 2 will be admitted for the 2027/28 school year. The educational offering is to be successively expanded in subsequent years to include an integrated secondary school and an upper secondary school (Gymnasiale Oberstufe). This will enable students to pursue a continuous educational pathway from the first year to the Abitur qualification at a single location.
The Herzberg Campus is a commercial quarter developed by Trockland in Berlin-Lichtenberg. The building complex on Herzbergstraße, with a total rental area of approximately 23,700 m² and generous outdoor facilities, combines historical industrial architecture with modernised commercial spaces. The landmarked historic building was originally constructed between 1916 and 1919 for AGA Automobilwerke. Connectivity to public transport is ensured by several tram lines and a bus route directly in front of the building. A cycle path also runs directly past the site.
Altan Arslanoglu, Senior Project Manager at Trockland, expressed his pleasure at the inclusion of a school in the tenant community of the Herzberg Campus, which has developed into a vibrant commercial location in recent years. Carmen Weidenbacher, co-founder of BEO Schule, emphasised the importance of the location for pedagogical design. She highlighted that the spatial conditions of the Herzberg Campus, from learning areas to the sports hall and outdoor spaces, offer ample scope for creating a school where children and young people can develop confidence in their abilities.
The educational concept of BEO Schule is designed to prepare children and young people for the challenges of the 21st century. In addition to fundamental competencies in reading, writing, and arithmetic, the focus is on critical thinking, communication, and collaboration, as well as the ability to initiate and shape change. To enable access, school fees are income-dependent and are based on the financial circumstances of the parents.
