BEOS, a company of Swiss Life Asset Managers, has secured a long-term letting of approximately 5,700 square metres to the international technology company Planet Labs at the BERLIN DECKS innovation campus in Berlin-Mitte. These premises include areas for satellite production as well as for research and development activities, complemented by corresponding office spaces. Planet Labs is expected to occupy the premises during the current year.

With this acquisition, Buildings 1 and 2 of BERLIN DECKS are now fully let. The Berlin site has been Planet Labs' European headquarters for over a decade. By expanding into BERLIN DECKS, the company is establishing its first European production facility, which significantly extends Planet Labs' European headquarters.

BERLIN DECKS as a technology hub

In addition to Planet Labs, other technology companies are among the tenants at BERLIN DECKS, including MBition, a subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz. MBition already uses spaces in Buildings 1 and 2 for software development as well as for test and development environments, which underscores the campus's focus on innovative technology sectors.

Matthias Schmidt, Head Project Development at Swiss Life Asset Managers in Germany and a member of the BEOS board, stated that Planet Labs represents the type of companies for which BERLIN DECKS was conceived. He highlighted that these are technology-oriented users who combine research, development, and modern production at one location. He further elaborated that Planet Labs' decision for BERLIN DECKS underpins the campus's attractiveness for international innovation companies.

Martin Polak, Managing Director of Planet Labs Germany, explained that the expansion of the European headquarters with the new European Space Hub at BERLIN DECKS represents a decisive milestone in Planet's European growth strategy. He emphasised that the European Space Hub brings together satellite manufacturing, engineering, mission operations, and business operations in one place. Polak added that this creates the conditions to more rapidly integrate innovations into operational functions and to strengthen Europe's long-term technological and industrial capabilities in space.

The transaction was supported by the consulting firms Knight Frank, Realogis, and Newmark.
