The Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) has certified 237 hotels for their achievements in sustainability and responsible operational management in the third round of the Dubai Sustainable Tourism (DST) Stamp. This figure represents a 55 percent increase compared to the 153 awards granted in the second round. Since the programme's introduction in 2023 with 70 certified hotels, the number of awarded establishments has more than tripled. This development underscores the growing commitment of Dubai's hotel industry to the principles of sustainable tourism.

The programme supports the United Arab Emirates' international commitments to achieving the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. In the current award round, 22 Gold, 92 Silver, and 123 Bronze Awards were presented, reflecting excellent compliance with DET's sustainability requirements.

Comprehensive ESG Criteria as a Basis

The criteria underlying the certification cover a broad spectrum of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) aspects. This includes efficiency measures in energy and water consumption, effective waste management, and responsible procurement practices. Furthermore, employee and guest engagement, local community empowerment initiatives, and climate protection measures are crucial for the assessment.

The significant increase in certified hotels highlights a strengthened and targeted integration of sustainability principles into operational processes within Dubai's hotel sector. Establishments are firmly embedding these guidelines into their daily operations, thereby actively promoting the overarching environmental, economic, and tourism objectives of the region.

DET Strategy and Support Instruments

The DST Stamp is an integral part of DET's strategy to promote resource-efficient tourism. The Department provides hotels with various tools, including a Carbon Calculator and specialised training on the Dubai Way platform. These measures are designed to support the reduction of emissions and the building of expertise. The aim is to achieve both global and local climate targets, such as Net Zero 2050 and D33.

  • Gold Awards: 22 hotels
  • Silver Awards: 92 hotels
  • Bronze Awards: 123 hotels
  • Total number of awarded hotels (3rd round): 237
