Gencom, the real estate investment firm specialising in hospitality with US$8 billion in assets under management, is reorganising into two business divisions: Gencom Capital and Gencom Real Estate. According to Gencom, CEO and founder Karim Alibhai will continue to lead both business units. The restructuring also includes new hires and promotions to support the new direction.
Gencom operates up to 6,000 hotel rooms nationwide under well-known brands such as Ritz-Carlton, Rosewood, Auberge Resorts Collection, Fairmont, Hyatt, and Marriott. Karim Alibhai stated in an announcement that successful real estate platforms are built by combining disciplined investing with exceptional execution. He emphasised that, given Gencom’s continued growth, this development strengthens the executive leadership, sharpens responsibilities, and positions the company to capitalise on future opportunities and continue to deliver outstanding results for investors and partners.
Leadership Changes at Gencom Capital
Gencom Capital will henceforth be led by Chief Investment Officer Alessandro Colantonio, who will be responsible for capital markets, portfolio management, and capital allocation. As part of this reorganisation, several Managing Directors were promoted to support the new structure.

Leadership Changes at Gencom Real Estate
Donald McGregor has been appointed President of Gencom Real Estate and will oversee development, construction, and asset management. Shaun Johnston also received a promotion to Head of Portfolio Finance and Accounting and will report directly to McGregor. A new appointment concerns Jake Lynch, who was hired as Senior Vice President of Asset Management for Gencom Real Estate.

He highlighted that Jake Lynch is an excellent addition to the Gencom Real Estate platform and Shaun Johnston’s promotion reflects the potential talent within the company.
