Goldbeck Parking Services GmbH, a specialist in the management of parking properties, has signed a contract with the city of Ilmenau to take over the operation of the Mobility Hub Terminal M at Ilmenau's main railway station. The contract comes into effect in September 2026 and has a term of five years. Under this agreement, Goldbeck Parking Services will be responsible for managing the car park, which comprises nine levels.
Terminal M offers a total of 216 car and 16 motorcycle parking spaces. For electromobility, 44 charging points are planned, with infrastructure expandable to up to 104 charging points thanks to installed busbars. Furthermore, 375 bicycle parking spaces are available to users. Goldbeck was previously responsible as general contractor for the realisation of the almost 8,000 square metre car park, completing it using a systematised construction method within approximately one and a half years.
Integration across the entire life cycle
By taking over the management, Goldbeck Parking Services will now accompany the property throughout its entire life cycle, from planning and systematised construction to ongoing building operation. The Mayor of Ilmenau, Dr. Daniel Schultheiß, expressed his satisfaction with the creation of a modern mobility offering that connects various modes of transport such as cars, bicycles, buses and trains. This contributes to relieving city centre traffic, strengthens local public transport, and offers a future-oriented solution for citizens.
Dr. Schultheiß also highlighted the collaborative implementation across the entire life cycle, ranging from planning and construction to operation. He emphasised that cooperation with Goldbeck had created a central and efficient infrastructure that would support the region's mobility needs in the long term. Ilmenau, located approximately 45 kilometres south of Erfurt on the northern edge of the Thuringian Forest, is characterised as a university city by the Technische Universität Ilmenau.
Technological equipment and service portfolio
To optimise the parking process, Goldbeck Parking Services is implementing a barrier-free free-flow system with automatic number plate recognition at Terminal M. This reduces waiting times and allows for smooth entry and exit. In addition, a comprehensive signage concept has been installed, which facilitates orientation for parking customers and improves the discoverability of parking spaces, access points, and mobility offerings. This enhances user comfort and minimises search times.
As part of the management contract, Goldbeck Parking Services is responsible not only for the parking technology but also for customer service, maintenance, cashless payment processing, season ticket management, and the cleaning and upkeep of the property. Gregor Hensel, Managing Director at Goldbeck Parking Services GmbH, emphasised that with the operation of the Mobility Hub in Ilmenau, the company's expertise would now be brought into a new project phase. He stated the objective of ensuring a comfortable, safe, and digital parking process for users, while simultaneously guaranteeing economically and technically reliable operation. Terminal M exemplifies how integrated mobility infrastructure can be designed efficiently, flexibly, and according to demand.
