Hitachi Energy has taken a significant step towards expanding its capabilities with the start of construction for a new office building in Lenzburg, Switzerland. The groundbreaking ceremony on 24 June 2026 marks the beginning of a project designed to strengthen the production of power semiconductors to meet increasing demand from sectors such as energy supply, industry, data centres, and transport.

Designed by ATP architekten ingenieure in Zurich, the building will comprise six storeys. The primary goal is to consolidate administrative functions into a modern and functional working environment. This construction measure will free up existing space in the production area and create room for further expansion of manufacturing facilities, which is expected to increase the overall efficiency of the plant.

The new building will create approximately 200 new jobs. The planning also includes a modern workplace design with meeting and focus rooms, a dedicated customer support area, and collaborative workspaces. An improved IT infrastructure is also part of the expansion to meet technical requirements. Matthias Wehrle, Managing Director of ATP architekten ingenieure in Zurich, stated that connecting office, logistics, and operational areas will create a future-proof building that promotes efficiency, flexibility, and sustainable site development.

The logistics area of the site will also undergo extensive modernisation. It will receive an automated warehouse infrastructure and special facilities designed to significantly increase throughput. These adjustments are necessary to meet the growing demands of the site and optimise production processes.

Rainer Käsmaier, Managing Director Global Product Group Semiconductors at Hitachi Energy, emphasised that this investment represents a decisive step towards strengthening the semiconductor presence and the targeted and sustainable expansion of the global semiconductor headquarters and production site in Lenzburg. He further stressed that the investment underscores the long-term commitment to Switzerland as an important hub for research and development as well as the manufacturing of power semiconductors. Simultaneously, it will create a modern and attractive working environment for employees.

  • Capacity expansion responds to increasing demand in critical infrastructure sectors.
  • The new office building streamlines administrative processes and creates space for production.
  • Modern logistics infrastructure increases throughput and efficiency at the Lenzburg site.
  • The investment reaffirms Switzerland's role as a central location for semiconductor technology.
