Hendricks & Schwartz is expanding its operations in the Rhine-Ruhr region and establishing a stronger presence in Düsseldorf. From 1 October 2026, Thomas Görtz will take over the management of the office there. Mr Görtz, a graduate in public administration with over 35 years of experience in local government and politics, was previously the Mayor of the city of Xanten.
His role will involve further developing the Düsseldorf location and expanding consultancy mandates across the entire Rhine-Ruhr region. Hendricks & Schwartz is already supporting various projects in this region. The personnel reinforcement in Düsseldorf aims to intensify existing activities and ensure even closer support for clients.
Focus on Municipal Expertise
Daniel Schreyer, Managing Director of Hendricks & Schwartz, commented on the expansion in Düsseldorf. He emphasised that this represents a logical step in a region where the company is already active in numerous projects, ranging from commercial area developments in Dortmund to conversions in Mülheim and geothermal projects in Münster. Mr Schreyer highlighted that many of these projects require the coordination of diverse interests and the preparation of viable local decisions. Thomas Görtz's many years of municipal experience are a valuable addition to the team and clients in this regard.
The consultancy firm supports private and public project sponsors with the political and communicative management of their projects. This includes analysing the project environment, developing communication strategies, and fostering dialogue with politicians, administration, media, and affected neighbourhoods. Particularly in the development of existing sites, the opening up of new commercial areas, and the expansion of infrastructure, early coordination between economic objectives, municipal requirements, and residents' concerns is essential.
Career and Network
Thomas Görtz worked for the city of Xanten from 2012 to 2025, initially as First Alderman and City Treasurer, and from 2014 as Mayor. Earlier professional positions took him to the district of Heinsberg and to the Municipal Audit Office of North Rhine-Westphalia, where he worked for over eight years as a team leader in the auditing and consulting of municipalities. His experience also extends to management and committee work in municipal companies, including in the areas of energy and water supply and the housing industry. Through his work in leading municipal associations and political bodies, he possesses an established network in North Rhine-Westphalia and at federal level.
Mr Görtz emphasised the importance of understanding municipal processes, political issues, and the concerns of the local population for the success of projects. He explained that from his time as Mayor, he is familiar with these perspectives and understands the importance of early, reliable exchange. His goal at Hendricks & Schwartz is to contribute to developing common solutions from diverse expectations.
