A public charter school is leasing space from an independent Catholic order to establish a new high school in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. The Launch Expeditionary Learning Charter School has signed a 15-year lease for 77,000 square feet with the Redemptorist Fathers of New York for the address 5902 Sixth Avenue. There, it will begin expanding its student body from autumn 2027, as tenant broker Open Impact Real Estate announced.
The asking rent for the space, which previously served as Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Academy, was not disclosed. The average office asking rent in Sunset Park was $26.43 per square foot in the second quarter of 2026, according to a report by Colliers.
Jake Cinti of Open Impact Real Estate, who represented the tenant alongside Eshaan Gandhi, stated: “The right facility doesn’t just house a school’s mission, it expands what’s possible.” Cinti added that Launch has built an extraordinary educational model and a meaningful presence in its community. This transaction provides the permanent institutional foundation to fully realise that vision, deepen Launch's impact on students, and expand its contribution to the Sunset Park community for years to come.
Frank Liantonio, Jason Kroger, Jonathan Squires, Josh Neustadter, and Austin Weiner of Cushman & Wakefield negotiated on behalf of the Redemptorist Fathers. The Sunset Park campus, which spans an entire block, includes a 16,000 square foot gymnasium, a cafeteria, a 7,600 square foot auditorium, and several outdoor areas for recreational activities.
Liantonio, Executive Managing Director at Cushman & Wakefield, commented: “Purpose-built educational facilities of this scale are rarely available in Brooklyn, making this a highly unique leasing opportunity.” He highlighted that the property’s existing school infrastructure, specialist amenities, and excellent public transport links made it an exceptional choice for the Launch Expeditionary Learning Charter School.
Launch currently operates a facility at 1580 Dean Street in Crown Heights, which started as a middle school in 2012. In 2025, it opened its doors to high school students, expanding by one grade level annually. Currently, the school serves ninth and tenth graders.
