Berliner Sparkasse is undergoing a planned generational change in its leadership. Johannes Evers, who has served as CEO since 2009 and was previously a board member for ten years, will conclude his mandate on 30 June 2027 at his own request. This decision by the Supervisory Board of Berliner Sparkasse was noted with regret and respect at its most recent meeting.
Concurrently, Nancy Plaßmann, currently the Deputy CEO of Berliner Sparkasse, has been appointed as the new CEO, effective 1 July 2027. She has been a member of the Management Board of Berliner Sparkasse since 1 October 2023 and is responsible for retail and corporate banking, marketing and sales management, customer and product management, credit card customers, and foundations.
Continuity and experience in focus
Professor Ulrich Reuter, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, emphasised that the departure of Johannes Evers, who will continue to lead the Sparkasse for another year, is associated with great recognition for his many years of service. The personnel decisions now made enable Berliner Sparkasse to complete a long-term planned generational change.
With the appointment of Nancy Plaßmann, the Sparkasse is relying on an experienced leader from within its own ranks. She possesses extensive and long-standing expertise within the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe. Her career began at Sparkasse Osnabrück, where she worked in various areas of retail and corporate banking, as well as in central staff departments. In 2018, she was appointed as a member of the Management Board there.
According to the Supervisory Board, these personnel decisions ensure strategic continuity and are intended to secure the future direction of Berliner Sparkasse. The transition is thus long-term oriented and aims to enable a smooth change at the helm of the financial institution. The overall development of Berliner Sparkasse is therefore embedded in a regulated process of handover to a new leader.
