Targeted national and international marketing is commencing for the approximately 160-hectare industrial and commercial site of Hornstorf-Kritzow, located east of Wismar. The cooperation aims to establish this significant location for investments in industry, logistics, the maritime economy, and manufacturing. The Nordwestmecklenburg Economic Development Corporation (WFG NWM) has been responsible for marketing activities since 1 July 2026 and will develop a detailed marketing and settlement concept in collaboration with its partners.
The Hornstorf-Kritzow site is classified as one of the most important in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It offers direct access to the federal motorways A20 and A14. Its proximity to the Wismar seaport, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's second-largest state port, which is reachable within approximately 15 minutes by car, represents another significant advantage. This infrastructure is particularly relevant for area-intensive and internationally oriented companies.
Strategic Orientation and Partners
The marketing agreement consolidates the interests of the Nordwestmecklenburg district, the Hanseatic city of Wismar, the municipality of Hornstorf, and the WFG NWM. This cooperation aims to provide companies interested in settling here with a central point of contact for their investment projects. The development of a marketing and settlement concept is designed to communicate the specific strengths of the area in a targeted manner.
With this initiative, the participating partners continue their proven inter-municipal cooperation. Previous experience with the Upahl/Grevesmühlen large industrial and commercial site forms a basis for this. It is expected that combined marketing and sales activities will strengthen Hornstorf-Kritzow's competitiveness and promote the establishment of larger companies. The focus is on creating optimal framework conditions for investments in the region.
Role of the Economic Development Corporation
The Nordwestmecklenburg mbH Economic Development Corporation (WFG), a subsidiary of the Nordwestmecklenburg district, plays a key role in shaping and implementing the marketing strategy. Its tasks include supporting companies during settlement processes, assisting with investment projects, and overarching site marketing. Furthermore, the WFG offers local firms support on topics such as funding advice to secure their growth and competitiveness.
