Michael Kors, a renowned fashion designer, is seeking to sell his secluded domicile on Fire Island, having reduced the originally set price from $6.25 million to now $6 million. Kors and his husband, Lance Le Pere, acquired the oceanfront property in 2001 for $950,000. They subsequently commissioned the renowned architect Scott Bromley to create a relaxed coastal retreat, inspired by locations such as Parrot Cay, Big Sur, and Amangiri.

Hidden in the small Water Island community, between Fire Island Pines and Davis Park, Kors's estate is one of only 48 homes bordering the protected Fire Island National Seashore. The ensemble offers five bedrooms and five and a half bathrooms across 3,600 square feet. Notable features include 200 feet of ocean access, two separate living units, a guesthouse, a Gunite pool, an outdoor kitchen, as well as multiple decks with sea views and a custom-built Jacuzzi.

Kors's estate is divided into two areas: a main residence with one bedroom, nestled protectively in the dunes, and a separate guesthouse with four bedrooms. Both are connected by a winding stone path that meanders through the sand. The main house serves as a private sanctuary for the owners. It features spa-style bathrooms on the lower level and an open-plan living area upstairs, where floor-to-ceiling windows offer panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean.

The guesthouse functions as the social hub of the estate. It houses several bedrooms, numerous indoor spaces for gatherings, generous sun terraces, an outdoor kitchen, a bar, and a custom-built Gunite swimming pool. The entire design of both houses is consistently geared towards the coastal style, reflected in features such as European oak floors, whitewashed cedar walls, custom wooden cabinetry, teak washbasins, and handcrafted stone surfaces.

After more than two decades of ownership, Michael Kors and Lance Le Pere are ready to hand over their Fire Island estate to a new owner. Its design and location make it one of the island's most luxurious private residences. Should the sale occur close to the asking price of $6 million, the property would rank among the most expensive ever sold on Fire Island, further solidifying its status as one of the island's most outstanding addresses.

  • Price: $6 million
  • Location: Water Island community on Fire Island, New York
  • Size: 3,600 square feet
  • Bedrooms: 5
  • Bathrooms: 5 full, 1 half bathroom
