Michael Mann, known for directing stylised crime dramas such as 'Heat', 'Collateral', 'Miami Vice' and most recently 'Ferrari', was the original owner of the Hollywood Hills property known as Villa Hillside. The acclaimed filmmaker's former home was re-listed in July and found a buyer within less than two months for $3.5 million.
The four-bedroom residence was designed by Daniel Romualdez, an AD Hall of Fame Top 100 architect, while the landscaping was done by Sarita Jaccard. It is situated on two contiguous parcels above the Sunset Strip, offering panoramic city and canyon views. The property was handled by Stephen Sweeney of The Beverly Hills Estates.

Upon entering Mann's former home, the main living room opens up around two sofas grouped around a large square coffee table. Cream-coloured plastered walls, dark wood floors and rope-like mouldings near the ceiling give the room a Mediterranean ambience. Black-framed French doors and a panoramic window visually integrate the surroundings. Although the room may appear formal, a hidden projection screen can be lowered in front of the panoramic window, preserving the view during the day and giving the room the flexibility of a home cinema at night.
The formal dining room, accessible via a hallway, houses a long rectangular table surrounded by six olive green velvet chairs. Adjacent is a smaller breakfast nook next to the kitchen, where a compact table is placed in front of a built-in banquette with additional chairs. The kitchen directly adjoins the dining areas and features grey Shaker-style cabinets enclosing white worktops. The hob is positioned on a central peninsula, while the sink is set beneath two arched windows in the middle of the worktops. At the other end, a large stainless steel refrigerator and stacked wall ovens are integrated into the cabinetry, with additional storage extending into the furthest corner.
Sleeping areas and outdoor facilities
Upstairs, the main suite features a fireplace, with its sculpted plaster surround centrally positioned between two windows. The bed is placed to the right of the fireplace, with two rounded lounge chairs to its left in front of the suite's private balcony. The en-suite bathroom is characterised by light stone surfaces lining a long double vanity unit under separate mirrors, an arched window and pendant lights. On the other side is a deep bathtub within an open shower with wall-mounted taps and two showerheads. Two further bedrooms on this level continue the home's simple colour palette, consisting of white plastered walls, dark-framed windows and wood floors.
Outdoors, the hillside property is tiered to its main areas, all grouped around the pool. An elevated wooden deck hugs the slope, with steps leading around the platform between built-in beds with succulents and drought-tolerant plants. Another poolside lounge zone features a long, built-in sofa facing a rectangular fire pit, as well as a dining table in the corner. The dark-bottomed pool and hot tub run along these areas, framed by light paving and a wall with cascading water. In a hidden corner of the property, a freestanding clawfoot bathtub sits on a small wooden platform, creating an open-air bathing zone surrounded by tropical greenery.
