Münchener Hypothekenbank is seeing a significant improvement in its sustainability performance, manifested in an upgrade of its rating by ISS STOXX. The institution has been upgraded from the previous C+ assessment to B-. This re-evaluation positions the bank as one of the leading credit institutions within its specific peer group, which comprises 119 mortgage and promotional banks. Münchener Hypothekenbank achieves Decile Rank 1 in this context, underscoring its outstanding position in terms of sustainability within this sector.
In addition to the rating improvement, Münchener Hypothekenbank has once again been awarded the so-called Prime Label. ISS STOXX grants this distinction to companies that demonstrate strong performance in the areas of environment, social affairs, and corporate governance (ESG). This repeated confirmation underlines the bank's consistent alignment with high sustainability standards in its business practices and strategic development.
Strategic Importance of Sustainability
Dr. Holger Horn, Chairman of the Board of Management of Münchener Hypothekenbank, emphasised the central role of sustainability for the institution's resilience. He explained that sustainability strengthens the bank against various challenges, including economic fluctuations, climatic changes, and regulatory adjustments. This integration of sustainability principles into the business strategy is considered a fundamental component of the institution's long-term orientation. The recent rating improvement by ISS STOXX is interpreted as a confirmation of the chosen path.
ISS STOXX conducts assessments of approximately 8,000 companies, applying over 100 individual indicators. The scale for these assessments ranges from D- to A+. The analysis is based exclusively on publicly available documents and information. This includes, among other things, sustainability reports, disclosure reports, and published company policies, ensuring the transparency and traceability of the assessment.
Assessment Basis and Market Position
The ISS STOXX methodology is based on a detailed analysis of publicly available data. This ensures an objective and comparable assessment of sustainability performance across different industries. For Münchener Hypothekenbank, the current rating and the renewed Prime Label solidify its position as a pioneer in sustainable finance and corporate governance. This is particularly relevant for the real estate market, where ESG criteria are increasingly playing a decisive role in investment decisions and the long-term value development of properties.
