T
hree real estate agents have been fined $18,000 for failing to disclose unconsented building work on properties they were selling. The issue came to light when buyers discovered that renovations had been done without the necessary permits or consents. This included a bathroom renovation where a toilet was installed without proper authorization.
As a result of this omission, the buyers were unable to secure insurance, finance, or settle their purchase. They ultimately suffered a $10,000 loss due to the lack of disclosure. The Real Estate Authority complaints assessment committee investigated and found the agents at fault.
