Alexandria Residents Receive 2025 Real Estate Tax Bills, Due Next Month

2025 Real Estate Tax Bills Mailed; Payment Due by June 16

T
he City of Alexandria has sent out bills for the first half of 2025 real estate taxes, refuse fees, and stormwater utility fees. Payments are due by June 16th and can be made through various contact-free options available 24/7.

The tax rate for 2025 is $1.135 per $100 of assessed value. Refuse fees are $250 per can, while stormwater utility fees are $162.05 per Equivalent Residential Unit (ERU). Late payments will incur penalties and interest: a 5% penalty if paid by July 1st, and 10% (or $10, whichever is higher) after that date for real estate taxes.

Virginia law prohibits waiving taxes due to inability to pay or not receiving a bill. If you don't receive your bill, contact the City's Treasury Division before the due date. You can check your tax balance and payment history on the city's website.

The Finance Department recommends using online payments, mail, or a 24-hour drop box at City Hall. Online payments can be made by credit card (with a fee) or eCheck (no fee). Checks or money orders can be mailed to P.O. Box 34750 or placed in the Royal Street drop box.

If you're eligible, you may qualify for the Real Estate Tax Relief Program or full real estate tax exemption as a military veteran with a 100% service-connected disability. Applications for 2025 tax relief must be filed by April 15th, 2026. For more information, visit the city's website or contact [email protected] or 703-746-4800, Option 2.
