Battle Lines: Who Will Dominate the Real Estate Landscape?

Watch Jared James as real estate coach discusses consumer perceptions of agents and the future of brokerages.

J
ared James, a real estate coach and entrepreneur, recently discussed the future of the industry on the Real Estate Insiders Unfiltered podcast. He emphasized that agents must adapt to emerging trends or risk being left behind. The growing popularity of end-to-end transaction tools will continue to shape the market, making it essential for agents to stay relevant.

James warned that companies like Rocket's acquisition of Redfin is an example of what he calls the "app store-ification" of the industry, driven by an economy of convenience. If consumers find these platforms easy to use, they may stop using their agent altogether, not because they dislike them but simply because they don't think to use them.

A major battle is looming in the industry as brokerages and brands launch their own end-to-end tools, creating a "Cold War" for consumer adoption. James believes that whoever can get consumers to adopt their platform will be the winner. To stay relevant, agents must communicate their value proposition effectively, which includes not only their expertise but also their distribution model, software, and network.

James advises agents to own their narrative by speaking out on industry issues and creating content that showcases their stance. By doing so, they can establish themselves as thought leaders and overcome objections that might otherwise be insurmountable.
