arbara Harris, the widow of Hollywood legend Cary Grant, has put their Beverly Hills estate on the market for $77.5 million after a major renovation. The property, which was originally purchased by Grant in 1946 for around $46,000, had been extensively remodeled over the years, but ultimately underwent a complete transformation when Harris and her second husband, real-estate investor David Jaynes, tore down the original structure and built a modern contemporary estate.
The new home, designed to capture sweeping views from downtown Los Angeles to the Pacific Ocean, spans approximately 15,700 square feet and features six bedrooms, 12 bathrooms, and expansive terraces that wrap around both levels of the home. The interior design was inspired by the ultra-luxury Aman resorts, with a focus on minimalist high-end finishes, floor-to-ceiling glass, and ceiling height to open up the spaces.
The estate also includes a lower-level theater, a first-floor wine room, and manicured gardens featuring white and cream-colored roses. The landscape overhaul was extensive, with over 100 trees and 500 shrubs planted to create a serene oasis. Harris recalled that even Cary Grant had considered knocking down the original house during its renovation in the 1970s.
The Jayneses started construction on the new home in 2014 and completed it around 2022. Now approaching her 75th birthday, Harris is ready to downsize and has listed the property for $77.5 million. Despite market challenges, top-tier LA homes are still seeing major deals, according to listing agent Aaron Kirman.
The estate's history remains a key part of its enduring appeal, with Cary Grant's connection to the home evident in every aspect of its design and layout. The property is listed by Aaron Kirman of Christie's International Real Estate Southern California, along with colleagues Josh Morrow and Rosh Vinyua, and Denise Moreno and Gordon MacGeachy of Hilton & Hilton.
