umberland County Schools and Fayetteville community members are still weighing options for a new E.E. Smith High School location. Some advocate for keeping it at its current site on Seabrook Road, while others propose building on 23 acres of land offered by Sandhills Real Estate Holdings on Cochran Avenue. The proposed site boasts existing Public Works Construction infrastructure and multiple entry points.
Co-owner Justin Tahilramani notes that the current school is about 2.2 miles from the proposed location. Nearby resident Freddie McLean expressed indifference to the proposal, stating that the school's presence has not been a concern for him. Cumberland County commissioner Glenn Adams suggests that building on the smaller site could be feasible with an urban-style design featuring multiple floors.
This approach would allow school leaders to consider alternative sites previously eliminated due to wetlands concerns. Adams plans to meet with Sandhills Real Estate Holdings next week to discuss the proposal, but a decision timeline remains unclear.
