Frank Lloyd Wright's rare Indiana residence hits the market

A 1906 South Bend home showcases Wright's signature style in masterful design.

A
rare Frank Lloyd Wright home in Indiana is on the market for $1.17 million. The four-bedroom property, located in South Bend's historic West Washington District, is considered a "true architectural treasure" and the only Prairie-style residence in the state.

Built in 1906, this nearly 3,000-square-foot house was one of Wright's early works, showcasing his signature style with horizontal lines, built-ins, warm wood, and art glass windows. The home features an open floor plan, natural materials, and a harmonious blend of architecture and artistry.

The K.C. DeRhoades House boasts 65 original art glass windows, custom built-ins, and period lighting. Its interior includes a living room with an original brick fireplace, a formal dining room, and a tastefully updated kitchen. The five bedrooms are located upstairs, including a primary suite with its own fireplace and wall of art glass windows.

The property's half-acre lot has been meticulously maintained by its owners over the past several decades. Previous owners Suzanne and Tom Miller undertook a painstaking restoration in 1978, earning a posthumous Wright Spirit Award for their efforts in 2021. The current owners have added modern upgrades, including bathroom and kitchen renovations, air conditioning, and an electrical vehicle charger.
