uring NAR NXT in Houston, the America’s Housing Comeback coalition—an alliance of the League of Cities, Association of Home Builders, and NAR—met to tackle housing supply and affordability. Co‑chaired by Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and Mayor Mark Shepherd, the group included 10 NAR members. NAR President Kevin Sears highlighted the push for more homes. Jessica Lautz noted the U.S. needs about five million homes, while James Cristbrook stressed expanding supply builds generational wealth, citing the homeowner‑renter net‑worth gap. Panelists agreed that no single solution will work; instead, an “all‑of‑the‑above” strategy—drawing on the Housing Supply Accelerator Playbook—must be adopted. Houston’s example showed that even a city without zoning still faces affordability challenges from NIMBYism. Cristbrook called on REALTORS to partner with local officials, developers, and economic groups to drive change.
