Kanye West's Malibu mansion renovation project returns to market for $39M

Company relists West's beachfront bunker, now in restoration without windows.

K
anye West's former Malibu beachfront bunker, designed by renowned Japanese architect Tadao Ando, is back on the market after being snapped up by crowdfunding entrepreneur Bo Belmont. The property was left gutted and vacant when West abandoned it, sparking headlines in 2022-2023.

Belmont purchased the home for under $22 million last August, a significant loss of over $36 million for West, who had bought the property from financier Richard Sachs in 2021 for $57.25 million. Belmont's company, Belwood Investments, is now looking to sell the property mid-renovation, with the Wall Street Journal reporting that Belmont wants to recoup his investors' funds as soon as possible.

The home, built in 2013, spans 4,000 square feet and features four bedrooms and five bathrooms. However, West's radical renovations left it without windows, marble bathrooms, or electricity. The restoration is underway, with framing, plumbing, roofing, and electrical work already completed, but new windows are still on the way.

Belmont estimates that renovation costs will total around $8.5 million. He plans to sell the property for $39 million as-is, but if no one bites, he'll try again once the restoration is closer to completion in early 2026, with a price tag of $55-65 million.

Tadao Ando's residential designs are rare and highly sought after, often selling for tens of millions. The property has survived the massive wildfires that ravaged Los Angeles neighborhoods earlier this year, which may even increase its value due to the destruction of inventory along the Pacific Coast Highway.
