eeds Main Street has been awarded a Main Street Alabama designation after two years of waiting. The nonprofit organization aims to revitalize downtown Leeds through real estate redevelopment. To achieve this goal, they have partnered with Main Street Alabama and Place + Main Advisors to create a comprehensive plan for the area.
The plan will focus on identifying potential uses for vacant properties in downtown Leeds, conducting a retail market analysis, and evaluating several buildings. The team from Main Street Alabama and Place + Main Advisors will visit Leeds on November 19-20 to gather data and host a Walking Visioning Tour.
During the tour, members of the public are invited to share their ideas about what types of businesses would be suitable for the area. The event will take place at 6:00 pm in the parking lot located at 8052 Parkway Drive in Leeds. This project is funded by a federal grant from the US Economic Development Administration.
Main Street Alabama, in partnership with Opportunity Alabama and the Business Council of Alabama, applied for and received the EDA grant. The organization will use their portion to provide services to designated communities, including real estate redevelopment plans, small-scale production workshops, and incremental development training.
