uigi Mangione, accused killer of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, lived in a high-rise Honolulu apartment just months before the murder. The 1,000-square-foot unit at 801 South St. features two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Although the exact rent is unclear, estimates suggest it was around $4,000 per month.
The apartment's owners, Peter and Nam Joun, purchased it in 2021 for $745,500. Rental transactions were handled by a property management company, but the Jouns claim they were unaware Mangione was their tenant. The Honolulu police department has not commented on the case.
Mangione had previously rented a room at The Surfbreak, a co-living space in Honolulu, where he paid $2,000 a month. His former landlord described him as upbeat and accomplished, with a promising background as a University of Pennsylvania graduate and engineer. However, Mangione was reportedly in constant pain after a surfing accident in Hawaii.
Mangione's arrest photo shows him holding a manifesto accusing health insurance companies of corporate greed, fueling speculation about the motive behind the CEO's death. Investigators are now examining his movements and mindset leading up to the murder.
